JOB DESCRIPTION
Specific tasks depend on the specialty; a surgeon's daily tasks are significantly different from those of a doctor working in accident and emergency (A&E) or a general physician. However, the following responsibilities are likely to be carried out, regardless of the doctor's specialty, on a daily or weekly basis:
·         Monitoring and providing general care to patients on hospital wards and in outpatient clinics;
·         Admitting patients requiring special care, investigations and treatment;
·         Examining and talking to patients to diagnose their medical conditions;
·         Carrying out specific procedures, e.g. performing operations and specialist investigations;
·         Making notes, both as a legal record of treatment and for the benefit of other health care professionals;
·         Working with other doctors as part of a team, either in the same department, or within other specialties;
·         Liaising with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment;
·         Promoting health education;
·         Undertaking managerial responsibilities such as planning the workload and staffing of the department, especially at more senior levels;
·         Teaching (junior doctors and medical students), as well as auditing and research.
·         Doctors often work very long and unsocial hours, including weekends, evenings and nights (usually on a rota basis), although working hours vary according to specialty. Since August 2009, the European Working Time Directive (EWTD) has made it illegal for junior doctors to work more than 48 hours a week.
·         Working conditions vary according to specialty. Settings include wards, consulting rooms, operating theatres, laboratories and special units, such as accident and emergency (A&E).
·         There are some opportunities to work in different parts of the country as a locum, or to practise abroad.
·         The work may be demanding, both mentally and physically, with long, unsocial hours and you will be taking responsibility for patients’ health and wellbeing.
·         Travel is occasionally required as part of the working day. Doctors on an on-call rota system are frequently absent from home overnight.

Pay – Package and Career Path
The average salary of is between $35,000 - $40,000, apart from Anaesthesiologist for whom it is $ 20,000/-
Opportunity to progress to consultant level, the basic pay for full-time consultants is £74,504 - $100,446
Note : All of the figures quoted above are basic salaries for the job titles stated and do not include on-call payments, which are made to doctors working on rotas and which may amount to significant sums. Hospital doctors’ salaries may also be supplemented by London weightings or private income.

The final note:

- The role of hospital doctor is increasingly oriented towards management, training, education and mentoring functions, as well as liaising with other specialists. Health service modernisation and the increasing emphasis on patient choice and patient safety, mean that there is an increase in accountability and paperwork in all promoted posts. Ethical issues (e.g. euthanasia) and the threat of litigation are key themes that doctors need to be aware of as their career advances.
- The selected candidates need to sign a non-revocable bond with us stating that they will not leave their assigned responsibility for at least one year from the day of selection, unless asked for. They will also have to assure that while working with us, they will not do private practice.
